“The internet is not a dump truck,” Alaska Senator Ted Stevens once famously proclaimed. “It is a series of tubes.” Some people want to keep those tubes free and fair so that everyone has access to them. Others, like major ISPs want to start charging a premium for certain content, or they want to outright block information they dislike.
This is why some people have begun to advocate for new neutrality, a law that would require ISPs to treat all information equally and without discrimination. The internet needs to remain a democratic, user-driven space and not one reshaped to suit corporate interests.
